Argynnis paphia – Keisarinviitta – keizersmantel
A. paphia is a relatively new species in Liesjärvi. It was first observed in 2011. (male, 1-8-2016).
It’s courtship display is spectacular. While flying, the male tumbles over the female. (14-7-2019)
The species often rests in tree tops. (female, 10-7-2019)
However, it also visits gravel roads. (male, 26-7-2019)
It overwinters as larvae that stay on the bark of a tree. The larvae feed on violet species. (17-7-2012)
When becoming more abundant, also this species becomes a victum of car traffic. (9-7-2018)
